The hang
Every work comes up from the Art Institute of Chicago's collection at its true size, so a portrait miniature you could cover with a thumb hangs beside a street scene nearly three metres wide. The visitor and the bench are there to measure against.
Drag works along the wall. They pull toward the centre line most museums hang to, 145 cm from the floor, toward their neighbours' edges, and to the point halfway between two neighbours. Hold Alt to place one freely. Tall works settle with their bottom edge 50 cm up instead, clear of the bench.
Paintings come in the frame size the museum measured where it has one; works on paper get a mat and a slim frame. Plan turns the room into a hanging plan with a checklist and running dimensions, the drawing a crew hangs from.
Arrow keys nudge the selected work by a centimetre, Shift for ten. Share copies a link to the whole hang.
